Introducing WYSIWYG
I hear complaints that HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is too hard for some who would contribute. Well … don't let unfamiliarity with HTML stop you now. The TinyMCE interface is available to qualified members.
The Tiny Moxicode CE (Content Editor), on by default, replaces the Drupal textarea with a hybrid control — with a toolbar for HTML-challenged contributors. For the die-hard contributors, a link is provided for disabling the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface. For those who want to learn, there is a button on the toolbar (
) providing a HTML source editor with the content already in the CE.
If a toolbar icon is insufficient clue to functionality, simply float your mouse pointer over the questionable icon to display a textual hint. Only a small set of HTML is enabled, as there are security considerations with HTML and a Drupal-powered CMS (Content Management System). MyDLLURTH values security and our readers.
Contibutors, with sufficient privilege and storage quota, will be able to upload and include images in their content by the "Insert/edit image" (
) icon. Other icons assist construction of lists, tables, font color, font decoration, and emoticons.
A few final notes:
- If you use TinyMCE to author content, you must select "Full HTML" in the "Input format" section (following the CE control).
- If you navigate away from an edit — perhaps to view a product or maybe to find a citation — some settings will be lost. Save your article often with the "Submit" button.
- To keep articles from the front page while edits are under way, the default publication is not to the front page. Select "Promoted to front page" from "Publishing options" to spotlight a story. Submitted articles may be promoted by a full administrator if the author has insufficient privilege.
